Catherine I. Hanson is Vice President of the AMA?s Private Sector Advocacy and Advocacy Resource Center unit. PSA/ARC has responsibility for state legislation and private sector matters including physician practice management and third party payer issues. Prior to assuming this role in July 2007, she had served as Vice President and General Counsel of the California Medical Association since 1986. Ms. Hanson is the author of numerous publications, including the 4000+ page California Physicians Legal Handbook which she published annually with her CMA Legal Center staff since 1990. She is a past president of the California Society for Health Care Attorneys, a past president of the American Society of Medical Association Counsel, and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association Health Law Section, the American Society of Association Executives, and the American Association of Medical Society Executives. Ms. Hanson is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, obtained her J.D. degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at University of California, Berkeley and is a California licensed attorney.
