Richard J. Morochove, B. Comm, FCA, CA•IT


Richard Morochove is an IT consultant who has helped professionals and businesses get the most value from their information technology investments since 1979. He has special expertise in accounting and financial systems, e-commerce and computer forensic investigations.

Richard is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (Ontario 1977, Fellow 1994), a Chartered Accountant-designated Information Technology specialist (CA•IT) and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1975) from the University of Toronto. He is a founding director of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' board for the Alliance for Excellence in Information Technology and former chair of its certification committee.

A noted computer authority, Richard has lectured at the University of Toronto, York University and George Brown College. He has spoken about information technology on more than three hundred occasions including the COMDEX Canada computer conference and trade show, the Canadian Computer Show and Conference and the annual conferences of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the American Academic Accounting Association. He has also presented at corporate events for businesses such as Toshiba Canada and Standard Broadcasting.

Richard is a prolific writer who has written more than one thousand published articles about information technology since 1983. He has written the Computer Monitor column for The Bottom Line since 1985 and edits the publication's annual Financial Software Vendor Directory, the definitive Canadian guide to financial applications. From 1991-2005 he wrote the award-winning, weekly Computer Watch column for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest-circulation newspaper, and syndicated nation-wide to other Canadian newspapers. He was a software reviewer and columnist for San Francisco-based PC World, 1991-2009.

Richard was executive editor of the annual The Bottom Line Guide to Business Software (1990-93), a contributor to The Handbook of Information Technology (Richard De Boo), contributor of the chapter on accounting software in the InfoWorld Consumer Product Guide (Simon & Schuster) and co-author of The Electronic Law Office (Canadian Bar Association Task Force on Computers in the Law Office).

Richard has been frequently interviewed by the electronic media and discussed computer and information technology issues on BNN (Business News Network), CTV's Canada AM, Global TV’s evening news, CITY-TV City Pulse News, CHCH-TV News, CBC Newsworld's Tomorrow/Today, Canada Live and Early Edition, CBC-TV's Morning News, The Journal and Venture and other television programs. He has also been interviewed on radio stations CFRB, CJAD, 680 NEWS and CBC Radio’s national network.

Richard is Listowner and moderator of Can-AccTech (Canada-Accounting Technology), an e-mail group where finance and software professionals discuss technology useful to accountants.  When he isn’t leashed to a computer, Richard enjoys hiking and camping in Canada’s wilderness parks.
